Community Solar
The Community Solar Act in New Mexico has provisions for “native community solar projects” that exempt them from specific requirements applied to general “community solar facilities.” Native community solar projects are defined as those sited on Indian land and owned or operated by an Indian nation, tribe, or pueblo or a tribal entity or in partnership with a third-party entity.
Tribal Nations stand to benefit from community solar legislation through economic development and lowering the disproportionate energy costs born by Tribal communities.
Native community solar programs are outside the purview of the Program Administrator, and organizations seeking to participate in these initiatives will need to establish direct relationships with the relevant utility.
