Statement from Sovereign Energy on the Presidential Election Result

For centuries, our people have withstood the shifting tides of leadership in the United States. Each administration, regardless of party, has carried forward policies rooted in colonialism—policies that have disregarded our sovereignty and attacked our communities. With Donald Trump’s re-election, we face yet another chapter in this long history, yet our purpose and dedication to Tribal energy sovereignty remains unbroken.

The Trump administration’s plan to end government loans for clean energy on Tribal lands and to cut back on investments in renewable energy—investments that Tribal communities were finally able to access through the Inflation Reduction Act—demonstrates an enduring disregard for our futures. While this administration attempts to stall process and stifle growth, we know that our strength, resilience, and determination come from within, and from each other. We will continue to support Tribes in the protection of sacred sites and landscapes in the wake of federal plans for aggressive oil and gas development. We do not wait on anyone's permission to care for our lands or our people.

Sovereign Energy will continue our work with unwavering commitment to protect our lands, empower our communities with knowledge about energy, and drive energy sovereignty on our own terms. We will persist in building clean energy projects, uplifting Tribal communities, and safeguarding our cultural sites. In our unity and collective excellence, we have everything we need to sustain ourselves and our future.

No one can take away our commitment to our people or our right to self-determination. As Indigenous Nations, we have always been here; we have always endured. And together, we will continue our path forward.
